One of the most important concepts for optimal mind body health is mineral balance. Minerals play a crucial role in every cell, tissue, organ, & body system. This means they are involved in every single biochemical process in the body, including (but not limited to):
Once you understand the extent to which minerals affect human health, it is easy to understand how an imbalance or defiency leads to various symptoms, conditions, & disease, and the importance of leveraging their power becomes obvious. Therefore, the goal of mineral balancing is to optimize the body’s mineral system to restore overall health, energy, and vitality.
A hair tissue mineral analysis (HTMA) is a soft tissue biopsy. This means we are looking at cellular activity of minerals in the hair, much like a liver biopsy would look at the activity of cells in the liver. A key difference between HTMA and other testing is that the results reflect activity occuring over several months vs activity that coincides with only the exact moment of blood or urine collection. A hair analysis measures +/- 37 elements, including macro-minerals, trace elements, and toxic metals, and provides a properly trained eye direct insight to mineral metabolism and heavy metal status.

Using hair as a means of accessing the elements is not especially unique. It has been done for decades, and many practitioners offer this method of testing. However, the method in which I analyze and interpret the test results is what distinguishes me from other practitioners and modalities. This method, essentiallly a full mind-body stress analysis, embodies the ideals of the body as a system and works to balance the mineral profile as an entirety vs nutrient replacement therapy. It is based on the research and work of David L. Watts, PhD & Dr. Paul C. Eck ( HTMA & Mineral Balancing), George Watson PhD (Oxidation Types), Hans Selye MD (General Adaptions Syndrome), Roger Williams, PhD (Biochemical Individuality), Melvin Page DDS (ANS Balancing), Weston A. Price, DDS (Nutrition & Biochemistry), William J Walsh (Nutrtition, Biochemistry, & Psychiatry), PhD, William Albrecht PhD (Mineral Balancing, Soil fertility & Human Health), Peter A. Levine, PhD (Somatic Experiencing), and Stephen Porges, PhD (Polyvagal Theory).
While the mineral levels provided on a hair tissue mineral analysis (HTMA) do provide some helpful information, the most relevant information is found in the mineral ratios and patterns. Because of the way minerals are regulated by our glandular system, the ratios and patterns provide a very accurate stress analysis of the body. When you have a clear understanding of biochemical physiology you can then use the test to infer a wealth of information about the functioning of the entire neuroendocrine system. For example, the Sodium/Potassium ratio is referred to as the stress ratio. In the tissues sodium is regulated by the hormones aldosterone and potassium is regulated by the hormone cortisol. In this ratio we are able to understand the hormonal regulation of these elements, as well as the current stage of stress (Alarm, Resistance, or Exhaustion). Another example would be the Calcium/Potassium ratio, also referred to as the thyroid ratio. Potassium is needed to sensitize the cells thyroid hormone, and calcium desensitizes them. In this way these minerals regulates your thyroid hormone expression. And one last example would be the Calcium/Magnesium ratio, aka the blood sugar ratio. The body uses Calcium to signal the release of insulin from the pancreas in response to elevated blood sugar. When blood sugar returns to normal, magnesium stops the release of insulin. In this way the Calcium/Magnesium ratio regulates blood sugar.
While my qualifications encompass many areas, my focus is on navigating the complexities of tissue mineral balance as it relates to the nervous system and its influence on physiology and psychology (Body and Mind).
Through knowledge, experience, and application of mineral balancing, bioenergetics, and somatic experiencing I have developed a balancing formula that works with each person's unique biochemistry, to eliminate chronic symptoms and optimize health, energy, & vitality.
