Hormonal Imbalances

Estrogen Dominance, Copper Toxicity, PCOS, & PMS

Estrogen Dominance is simply too much estrogen. There is no set number that indicates estrogen dominance, rather it is the amount of estrogen you have relative to your other sex hormones, primarily progesterone.

Estrogen is critical for daily functions in the body.  However, when estrogen is unopposed by sufficient progesterone things become problematic.  When your estrogen to progesterone ratio is higher than normal it can wreak havoc on your entire body.  Estrogen dominance can cause symptoms ranging from fatigue, anxiety, depression, and pseudo bi-polar, to endometriosis, fibroids, weight gain, abnormal menstrual cycles, and breast cancer.

Copper Toxicity is related to estrogen dominance by the fact that excess copper causes estrogen retention in the body.  Many of the symptoms of copper toxicity and estrogen dominance overlap.

In our body, the minerals Sodium and Magnesium regulate our adrenal glands. Our adrenal glands are responsible for the release of our sex hormones. The minerals Zinc and Copper correspond to progesterone and estrogen, respectively. When our minerals are balanced, and Zinc and Copper are in the correct ratio, our body will maintain the proper amount of estrogen relative to progesterone.

Allopathic medicine is quick to prescribe hormones or hormonal birth control to alleviate the symptoms of estrogen dominance. Unfortunately, this makes things worse in the long run. If you are experiencing symptoms of estrogen dominance it is critical to understand your cellular mineral levels.  HTMA can pin point exactly which nutrient minerals your body needs to properly balance your minerals naturally without any negative side effects!

PCOS is an endocrine disorder effecting women of reproductive age.  Symptoms of PCOS include estrogen dominance, irregular periods, pelvic pain, excess androgen (testosterone) levels, acne, fatigue, depression, anxiety, excessive facial and/or body hair, high cholesterol, dark patches of skin, decreased libido, weight management difficulty, insulin resistance, and type 2 diabetes.

In our body, the minerals Sodium and Magnesium regulate our adrenal glands. Our adrenal glands are responsible for the release of our sex hormones.  Zinc is required for the production of progesterone while the mineral copper corresponds to estrogen.  When our minerals are balanced, appropriate hormone signals will be enacted and our hormone levels will normalize.

There is no allopathic cure for PCOS, and treatment aims to alleviate the symptoms. Doctors tend to prescribe hormonal birth control and insulin, and recommend surgical options, which include drilling holes in the ovaries to decrease androgen output. Unfortunately, these treatments are only a Band-Aid and tend to make things worse over time. If you have been diagnosed with, or are experiencing symptoms of PCOS, it is important to understand your mineral levels in order to correct the problem.  HTMA will provide you with a road map, based on your very own biochemistry, to properly balance your nutrient minerals without any negative side effects!

Digestion, The Liver, and Estrogen

Your digestion determines in part how efficiently you get rid of intestinal waste. One major way your body eliminates estrogen is through bowel movements. If your elimination is slow, you will not efficiently get rid of estrogen through the digestive tract. When estrogen moves too slowly through your intestines, it has ample opportunity to be reabsorbed into the bloodstream.  In addition, a leaky gut does not effectively escort estrogen metabolites out of the body, also allowing for reabsorption.   And finally, if your liver is sluggish, which most are these days, both conjugation and bile production will hindered allowing for reabsorption of estrogen.  Stack all of this on top of the normal estrogen your body releases during ovulation and menstruation, and you can easily see how estrogen levels climb month by month.
